Manchester United have a fresh injury concern before their Champions League trip to Como, with up to ten senior players potentially unavailable after several high profile absentees from Tuesday’s training session.
Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez were among those missing as United trained at Carrington ahead of the match. They travel to the shores of Lake Como on Wednesday evening to face Cesc Fabregas’ side, hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of this season’s league phase.
Historic first meeting in Italy
The game will take place at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, following approval from UEFA. It is a historic occasion, as United have never faced Como in a competitive fixture before.
However, Michael Carrick may now face a selection dilemma. Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford all missed Tuesday morning’s session, which sparked fears that they will not be named in the travelling squad.
Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven missed the 1–1 draw with Leeds at the weekend. Martinez was replaced at half time in that game after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford carrying a knock
Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road. Carrick has confirmed that the England international has been carrying a knock recently.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the United head coach said.
As expected, long term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte also missed the session, as did third choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
Leny Yoro is certain to miss the Como game. He serves a suspension after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
